About the Victorian Centre for Mental Health
The VCMH was established in 2019, under the name of the Nunyara Centre, by Amanda Johnson (CEO) and Rajiv Siotia (Medical Director). Being a purpose-built mental health day hospital means the VCMH addresses a current gap in the stepped-care health model. Patients who require, or wish to access, a higher level of intensive treatment can do so without requiring an in-patient admission. The centre is able to provide accessible, cost effective mental health care services to the south-east of Melbourne and beyond.
The VCMH works alongside sister companies the Melbourne DBT Centre and DBT in Schools. The Melbourne DBT Centre provides a specialist DBT and general out-patient psychological service designed to work with Medicare funding. DBT In Schools is a service dedicated to delivering evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents in schools. The VCMH is a fully accredited member of Day Hospitals Australia, which is a peak representative body for stand-alone day hospitals within the Australian health care environment. We also work with Global Mark who ensures the VCMH meets the standards, procedures and compliance with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (Second Edition) and National Standards for Mental Health Services.

Insurance
From 1 April 2018, a Mental Health Waiver has been introduced to enable eligible private hospital insurance members to upgrade their level of cover to a policy with Included in-hospital psychiatric treatment and elect to have the 2 month waiting period for those higher benefits waived. This means somebody on a basic or mid-level of hospital cover can immediately upgrade their cover and access higher benefits towards in-hospital psychiatric treatment.
